When you decide to quit your job and take a year of your life to promote health, wellness and fitness while giving back to charity, I assure you it’s more than just planning a year-long vacation (yes, we get those comments). And while I wish it could be as easy as saying “I want to give money to an amazing charity and change the world” unfortunately, there are lawyers and accountants and rules and regulations that we must follow. And over the last couple weeks as we’ve been meeting with them to ensure our ducks are all in a row, we’ve had to make some changes to the initial plan and our way of giving.
The good news is there are others out there with a mission so in-tune with our own, that are just as excited about what we’re doing as we are, who see the potential to create a huge impact and change the world, and who ultimately have provided an amazing opportunity for us to partner.
With that, we’re excited to announce we’ll be partnering with Sweat Angels for the year!
What is Sweat Angels?
Sweat Angels was created to connect the community and box owners with the causes they care about – to use their resources to make a lasting difference in the world.
Each and every visit to the box equals a tangible charitable outcome and is promoted via Facebook by the members.
What does this mean for 50 States In A Year?
It means that our charity is changing. We love the work that CrossFit for Hope does and has done, but when you’re trying to make a big impact, you need to have the confidence in what you have in place and over the last few weeks, as we spoke with our lawyer and accountant, we knew there needed to be a change. You need to know you have the right team behind you and with Sweat Angels by our side, we know we have the right team.
Who are we giving to now?
With Sweat Angels the charity changes every month and so we won’t strictly be giving to ONE cause over the course of the year, we’ll be giving to MANY! Take a look at their Wall of Giving to see just how much impact their amazing community has had!
Does this change how donations work?
Yes. Instead of us collecting donations at each event and writing a giant check to the charity at the end of the year, we’ll be able to direct members to donate right to the charity from a link on our site and the Sweat Angels site. We’ll have computers set up at each event for athletes to donate but anyone will be able to donate, whether at the events or not. It also makes it easier for us and avoids any concern as to where the money is going.
We’ll also still have our GoFundMe page for those who want to help us cover the costs associated with making this year happen.
We know this is a last minute change but we’re confident it’s the right thing to do. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to send us an email at 50statesinayear AT gmail DOT com.
